Linking up with public transport – Voi scooters are now available in Düsseldorf’s mobility app “redy”

After launching in Düsseldorf less than a year ago, it is time for our e-scooters to take the next step and join forces with public transport

Over the last few months the capital of Germany’s most densely populated federal state, North-Rhine Westfalia, has shown a very high demand for the flexible on-demand mobility which our sharing platform enables. Close to 1.2 million rides on Voi-Scooters were made during that time and we want to thank our riders, as well as the city for the good time we had so far. Jasmin Rimmele, Transport Partnership Manager at Voi explains: 58% of our rides in Düsseldorf are intermodal – meaning that they start or end close to public transport stations”.

As a first and last mile solution, the potential of e-scooters increases even further, when they are combined with local public transport. The ease of access, especially of booking processes plays a huge role in this regard. Apps that provide customers with an interactive map that displays both public transport stations, as well as available scooters nearby, enable a new form of mobility by arranging city travel smartly and efficiently.

We have been working on this vision together with Düsseldorf’s public transport operator Rheinbahn. And we are happy and proud to announce that, starting from today, our scooters will be available through the city’s new mobility app “redy”.

With the mobility app “redy“, Rheinbahn recently launched a modern mobility platform that links public transport services with those of other providers. In the app riders can buy bus and train tickets, but also book bikes, e-scooters, taxis and shared cars – without having to access other apps or websites.

redy – one app for different mobility offers
The “redy” app is available free of charge in the App Store and the Google Play Store and available for both Apple (iOS) and Android devices. To use the service riders must register with their address, phone number and e-mail contact and provide a payment option.

The project was funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) as part of the “Digitalisation of local transport systems” funding guideline and implemented by Rheinbahn together with the Aachen-based company “Better Mobility“. During the next few years the platform will be continuously expanded while more mobility services get integrated over time.

Jörg Röhlen, Managing Director at Better Mobility, says: “We are proud to have built a fully connecting MaaS-app together with Rheinbahn, based on our white-label technology. Thanks to deep integrations VOI and all other services included are directly bookable through redy without changing apps.”
