RideLikeVoila: Saluting one year of the world’s first e-scooter traffic school

Today, we are celebrating the one-year anniversary of our online traffic school – RideLikeVoila – with an updated set of questions and translations to all local languages.

Europeans have been able to enjoy riding Voi for two years now, and with such a new mode of transport, we quickly realized that it might be hard to find information about how to use our scooters safely and responsibly. Many of our urban users have limited experience with being in traffic, some don’t have a driver’s license, and many will never own a car. It was time for Voi to guide users through our very own educational platform.

More than half a million users have educated themselves via our online traffic school.

In September 2019, we launched the world’s first traffic school for e-scooters, Ride Like Voila. It was developed in collaboration with NTF (The National Society for Road Safety in Sweden) and certified by Vias Institute (Belgian knowledge centre for road safety). Since traffic rules and vehicle classifications vary from country to country, different versions of the test are available to suit all markets in which Voi operates.

Traffic schools are usually pretty pricey. While we believe in education as the strongest tool to increase awareness of traffic rules and improve road safety, we also believe in rewarding users for responsible behaviour. Instead of charging for entry into the school, we reward our users with free Voi rides for educating themselves and passing the test, which consists of five parts:

  • Traffic rules
  • Signs and signals
  • Scooter knowledge
  • Parking
  • General information

To date, more than half a million users have educated themselves via our online traffic school.

As summer vacation comes to a close, school semesters begin, and people head back to work in these COVID-19 times, let’s make sure to leave room in public transport for those who need it the most. E-scooters are one of the safest, most sustainable ways to explore your city. They can take you wherever you need to go!

If you still haven’t participated in our traffic school, head to ridelikevoila.com to learn about things such as reaction distance, the right-or-left-hand rule, obligation to give-way, and how to park responsibly.

Go for a Voi ride with the credits you earn from taking the test. And remember: Ride safely, respect others around you, and park responsibly.
