Our Impact Dashboard is designed to show riders the impact they’re having on climate change and air pollution. It works by calculating the harmful emissions that have been avoided by riding with Voi, so users can understand their impact – and how making conscious mobility choices contributes to reducing emissions and the fight against climate change.

When we calculate emissions, we include the full lifecycle and value chain of our service. Our impact dashboard calculates the total emissions made from production to end-of-life. Or put another way: direct and indirect emissions.

How we calculate lifecycle emissions.

To measure Voi’s lifecycle emissions, a full Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of our service and vehicles was conducted independently by the international quality assurance company, EY, in accordance with ISO standards. It helps companies like Voi reach their sustainability goals by providing expert data analysis.

How high are our lifecycle emissions?

According to the LCA model, Voi’s average lifecycle emissions are 29 g CO2 per passenger-km. Direct emissions, which include vehicle use and distribution, are low – 3.2 g CO2 eq. per passenger-km. The majority of our emissions are indirect and linked to the production of vehicles and spare parts for repairs (a combined 79% of our overall CO2 eq emissions). The LCA also measures other emissions, including particulate matter (PM2.5).

Our Climate Action Plan.

We've been able to reduce our carbon footprint significantly since we were founded and, so far we've reduced our overall emissions by 76% on average and up to 85% in certain towns and cities. These reductions are made possible by a strong commitment to our Climate Action Plan, which focuses on extending vehicle lifespan and using swappable batteries, electric vehicles and using renewable energy for operations.

How do we calculate rider impact?

The Impact Dashboard takes into account each user’s distance travelled with Voi. Then it considers the total kilometres that might otherwise have been travelled by car. Based on the average life cycle emissions for cars and Voi’s own emission factors, we’re able to measure the approximate savings of using Voi, both in terms of climate change and air quality impact.
